He brought the cow's heart into the classroom and put it down on the table in front. The children gathered around as he carefully unwrapped the white paper to show them. It was huge, it seemed bigger than most of their heads. It sat there heavy and awkward on the slimy paper. They watched with wide eyes as he reached in his fingers and pried it open. Inside there was a messy tangle of red veins and chunky flesh. He lifted a handful of veins out of the heart to show them more closely. It was like spaghetti. The children poked the heart with their fingers. The more adventurous of them reached their hands in. Their fingers left red marks all over the classroom- the tables, the chairs, and their schoolwork. A cow's heart is big and messy but it pumps more blood than ours, he thought.
